Overview
This policy brief examines the relationship between truth and solidarity in Lebanon’s current crisis, arguing that their separation weakens accountability and undermines state-building. While humanitarian solidarity has become a dominant response to ongoing suffering, it often marginalizes political truth and allows structural dysfunctions to persist. The brief reframes truth as a sovereign act essential for restoring accountability and redefining responsibility, and reconceptualizes solidarity as a structured political force that addresses root causes rather than symptoms. It concludes that rebuilding Lebanon requires integrating truth and solidarity to restore state sovereignty, reactivate the social contract, and ensure legitimate governance.
