Lebanon in the “Day After”: The Last Chance?

Abstract
This policy brief examines the political and social repercussions of Lebanon’s involvement in the Gaza War, including the limited discourse surrounding immediate concerns like reconstruction and medical care, while neglecting the broader implications for Lebanon’s future. Despite differing narratives on Lebanon’s role in the regional conflict, discussions often overlook Hezbollah’s evolving role in the political system and the impact on Lebanon’s political duality. The brief addresses the need to reframe the narrative around state-building, emphasizing national security, citizen protection, and the restoration of Lebanon’s unique identity. It explores the constitutional, defense, and diplomatic choices required to build a citizenship-based state, drawing on Lebanon’s recent history.
