Highlights from Module 3 – Certificate in Influencing & Political Acumen at AUB Mediterraneo

From January 22 to 26, 2024, the Asfari Institute, Asfari Foundation, and London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) convened the third module of the Certificate in Influencing and Political Acumen at the AUB Mediterraneo in Pafos, Cyprus. This in-person module offered a dynamic platform for participants to deepen their understanding of political influencing and strategic advocacy.

The course kicked off with an engaging session of introductions and problem identification, setting a collaborative tone for the week. Participants were given the opportunity to network and discuss their challenges, forming coalitions and identifying shared goals. This initial phase was crucial for laying the groundwork for the intensive sessions that followed. A core component of the module was power analysis and stakeholder mapping. Through interactive exercises, participants explored how to identify and engage key stakeholders and analyze power dynamics. This strategic insight is essential for crafting effective influencing strategies and driving impactful change.

Public mobilization and digital activism were focal points of the course. Experts shared valuable techniques for engaging the public and harnessing digital platforms to amplify advocacy efforts. The sessions provided practical tools and creative ideas for leveraging social media and other digital channels to support political campaigns and social movements. The module also emphasized the importance of adaptive management. Participants learned how to navigate the complexities of real-world advocacy by adapting their strategies to changing circumstances. This approach helps ensure that advocacy efforts remain relevant and effective in the face of evolving political landscapes.

The week concluded with presentations of developed strategies, where participants shared their plans and received feedback from peers and mentors. This collaborative environment fostered a rich exchange of ideas and constructive critiques, setting the stage for future actions and continued engagement.
