Lessons From a Decade of Social Mobilization in the MENA Region: The Case of Transformative Feminism

On Thursday, February 22, 2023, a hybrid event was held at AUB Mediterraneo, in Pafos, Cyprus, to present research findings on feminist social mobilization in the MENA region, focusing on three key case studies and advocacy campaigns: Gender Equality in Nationality Law, Gender-Based Violence, and the Recognition and Voices within Queer Movements. The event provided valuable insights into the challenges, progress, and strategies employed by activists and advocates working towards gender justice and social change in the region.

The event featured three distinguished speakers: Dr. Christina Kaili, Senior Researcher and Project Manager at the Mediterranean Institute of Gender Studies (MIGS); Oula Ramadan, Founder and Director of Badael, a Syrian organization focused on civil society and peacebuilding; and Rabie Nasser, an economist, researcher, and co-founder of the Syrian Center for Policy Research (SCPR). Each speaker contributed expert insights into the case studies and discussed the ongoing efforts to address gender inequality in the MENA region.
