Transnational Conference on SRHR

Introduction

On December 5, 2022, the Asfari Institute for Civil Society and Citizenship organized a hybrid Transnational Conference on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR). This conference aims to provide information and share knowledge about SRHR from experts, targeting young people in their diversity to acquire adequate, correct, and detailed knowledge of SRHR.

Keynote Speech by Dr. Faysal El Kak

We kicked off this event with a keynote speech by Dr. Faysal El Kak on SRHR and youth inclusion. Dr. El Kak is the Immediate Vice President of FIGO, a Director of the Women Integrated Sexual Health (WISH) Program, and a Clinical Associate of OBGYN and Female Sexual Dysfunction at the Department of OBGYN at the American University of Beirut Medical Center (AUBMC), a Senior Lecturer of Health Behavior, Sexuality, and Public Health at the Faculty of Health Sciences at the American University of Beirut (AUB). He is involved in clinical and academic/research services at both academic and community levels, this includes running a community clinic where he works on services, research, and advocacy related to Syrian refugee health and marginalized Lebanese in the host community, especially women’s health. Dr. El Kak has published two books on maternal mortality, and several book chapters, as well as many media articles and appearances.

Panel 1: Current realities of SRHR: Case studies from the MENA region

This panel discussion highlighted the current situation and trends of SRHR in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region and looks specifically at a few case studies in selected communities.
