The Asfari Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) Art Retreat

The Asfari Institute for Civil Society and Citizenship at the American University of Beirut (AUB), in partnership with Oxfam, is organizing a Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) Art Retreat as part of their collaboration on the Masarouna project at Hammana Artist House in Lebanon on the 21st and 22nd of October 2022.

We invite artists, professional or amateur, and SRHR activists with an artistic streak to apply to be part of this unique experience. We will choose 15 participants from Lebanon, Jordan, Tunisia, Iraq, Palestine, and Egypt between the ages of 18 and 30 based on inclusivity and diversity to include different mediums of expression and several narratives of SRHR. We welcome a diverse array of artistic disciplines, including but not limited to classical visual arts, applied arts, and performing arts.

The two days of innovative experience in advocacy and artistic expression will be documented by a filmmaker, and we will screen the resulting documentary film in our SRHR film week in November and future opportunities.

We aspire to create a safe space for self-expression and intersectional feminist opportunities for in-depth discussions on human rights and the politics of civil liberties, reproductive justice, gender identity and diverse social expressions, and sexual orientation.

Please note that all costs will be covered.
