This post-conference workshop is organized in conjunction with the Re-Imagining Citizenship in the Arab Region Conference 2026, co-hosted by the Asfari Institute for Civil Society and Citizenship  as well as the Department of Political Studies and Public Administration and the Global Engagement Initiative at the American University of Beirut (AUB), the School of Public Affairs at American University (AU), the Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs, and Administration (NASPAA), and the Public Management Research Association (PMRA). 

The workshop is designed to support scholars from and working on the Middle East in developing high-quality research and increasing their success in publishing in international public management and administration journals. 

The workshop addresses the persistent underrepresentation of Middle Eastern scholarship in leading academic journals and aims to: 

1.  Build participants’ research and publishing capacities 
2. Provide practical training and mentorship from experienced journal editors 
3. Strengthen regional contributions to global academic discourse 
4. Foster a supportive peer network of public administration scholars

Workshop Components 

Participants will: 

1. Engage in sessions on manuscript preparation, journal selection, submission strategies, and responding to reviewers 
2. Receive detailed feedback on their papers from journal editors and peers 
3. Learn to navigate the peer-review and publication process 
4. Discuss challenges and opportunities facing regional scholars in public administration publishing

Participation Process 

1.  Abstract Submission: Submit an abstract of a paper in progress (can be the same as submitted to the main conference but must be within the scope of public management or related fields) by November 28, 2025. 

2. Full Paper Submission: Upon acceptance, participants commit to submitting a full draft by March 31, 2026. Failure to meet this deadline will be considered a formal withdrawal from the workshop. 

3. Feedback and Mentoring: Accepted papers will be read by editors and peers; feedback will be provided during the workshop sessions. 

4. Learning Sessions: The program includes targeted sessions on enhancing visibility, research positioning, and peer-review engagement.

Eligibility Criteria 

1. Scholars based in or conducting research on the Middle East 
2. Researchers in public management, public administration, nonprofit/NGO management, policy, or development 
3. Academics seeking to publish in English-language international journals in public administration and related fields 

Important Information: Participation in the workshop is limited and will be granted on a competitive basis. A limited number of needs-based travel grants are available. Upon acceptance to the workshop, participants must register for the Re-Imagining Citizenship in the Arab Region 2026 conference, either as presenters or attendees, in order to confirm their participation and remain eligible for travel support. However, attendance at the conference is mandatory to be able to be eligible for travel grants.
