High-Level Advocacy Event: Barriers to Women’s Access to Senior Public Positions in Lebanon

On June 21st, 2024, the Embassies of Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden in Lebanon, and the Asfari Institute for Civil Society and Citizenship, hosted a High-Level Advocacy Event as part of the Shifting Narratives: Towards Economic and Political Empowerment of Women project supported by the Nordic Council of Ministers. The event focused on the barriers women face in accessing senior public positions in Lebanon, highlighting the release of an outcome document aimed at reshaping narratives and overcoming systemic challenges.

The gathering featured notable speakers including H.E. Martin Yttervik, Norwegian Ambassador to Lebanon, H.E. Dr. Najat Aoun Saliba, Member of the Lebanese Parliament, and H.E. Lena Dergham, Director General of Libnor at the Ministry of Industry. Additional speeches were delivered by Manal Said, President of the Union of Progressive Women, Dr. Nuhad Yazbik-Dumit, Professor and Associate Dean, and Dr. Habbouba Aoun, Director of SOUKELGHARB Campus at the University of Balamand and a Parliamentary Candidate, and Joelle Aboufarhat, Co-founder of FiftyfiftyLB.
