Abstract
This outcome document summarizes Workshop 1: Barriers and Opportunities to Women’s Full Socioeconomic Inclusion in Lebanon, organized by the Asfari Institute for Civil Society and Citizenship at the American University of Beirut in partnership with the Embassies of Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden in Lebanon, as well as the Nordic Council of Ministers. The workshop examined how Lebanon’s economic collapse and political paralysis have deepened gender inequalities, excluding women from formal employment, decision-making, and social protection. Discussions identified key barriers, including discriminatory personal status laws, weak social protection, limited financial access, political underrepresentation, and inadequate gender data. The document outlines recommendations for inclusive social protection, legal reform, recognition of unpaid care work, and strengthened women’s leadership as essential steps toward equality and sustainable recovery.
