On September 12, 2024, the Asfari Institute for Civil Society and Citizenship at the American University of Beirut, in collaboration with Oxfam and the Global Alliance for Care, hosted the online launch of the MENA Working Group on Care (MENA-WGC). This event was a significant step in amplifying the discourse on care as a social justice issue in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
The launch aimed to introduce the working group members, present existing knowledge products such as regional scoping papers and case studies, and discuss the group’s terms of reference and six-month work plan. Key highlights included opening remarks by Lina Abou-Habib, Dr. Hadeel Qazzaz, and Yara Tarabulsi, followed by presentations on the Asfari Institute’s initiatives and a Q&A session. This event marked the beginning of a collaborative effort to enhance understanding and policy focus on care in the MENA region.
