Advancing Gender Equality in Public Administration: Lessons Learned from Female Members of Parliament and Public Administration in Lebanon

1 / 8

Despite ongoing efforts to promote gender equality, women continue to encounter challenges rooted in cultural norms, institutionalized discrimination, and patriarchal structures. The event fostered a discussion on overcoming these obstacles by bringing together female politicians, senior administrators, and members of parliament to share their experiences and strategies for increasing women’s participation and representation in the Lebanese public sector.

On April 4, 2024, the Asfari Institute for Civil Society and Citizenship at the American University of Beirut, the Embassies of Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden in Lebanon, and the Nordic Council of Ministers, held a workshop that addresses the barriers women face in accessing senior public positions in Lebanon, such as roles in parliament, general directorates, and ministries. The panel discussion moderated by Manar Zaiter, featured such as H.E. Dr. Halima Kaakour, H.E. Gloria Abouzeid, H.E. Wafaa Dikah, and Ms. Joelle AbouFarhat. The event also included a Q&A session and a lunch reception, providing opportunities for further engagement and networking.
